Extension Canada Student Visa

If you are already in Canada with a student visa (study permit) and you need to extend your stay, you may be able to apply for an extension of your study permit.

  • To be eligible for a study permit extension, you must be enrolled in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and be able to provide proof of continued enrollment in a program of study. You must also meet other eligibility criteria, such as having a valid passport, being in good health, and having enough funds to support yourself during your extended stay in Canada.
  • To apply for a study permit extension, you will need to submit an application to the Canadian government’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) before your current study permit expires. It is recommended that you apply for an extension at least 30 days before your current permit expires to allow for sufficient processing time.
  • In your application, you will need to provide updated personal and contact information, as well as proof of continued enrollment in your program of study. You may also need to provide additional supporting documentation, such as a letter from your school or financial documents.

It is important to note that if your study permit has already expired, you may be required to leave Canada and apply for a new study permit from outside the country.

It is recommended that you consult with a qualified immigration lawyer or contact the Canadian government’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for more information on the eligibility criteria and application process for extending your study permit in Canada.
